With Illinois now almost a full year into concealed firearm carry, and both the crime and murder rates down across the board, there are (remarkably) still those who think that concealed carry is a bad, dangerous, scary thing. They remain under the extraordinarily delusional impression that banning legal carry would magically make the world a safer place. These same geniuses think that all criminals purchase their guns legally from gun stores, that they're in possession of valid FOID cards, and that they willingly abide by the mandatory background checks and waiting periods.
Active Self-Defense VS Passive Self Defense
These people need to wake up, and they need to wake up soon. Because as anyone with even a semi-functioning brain knows, Illinois concealed carry laws have only made this state a safer place to live, work, play and raise a family. Here are a few reasons why:
Police Can't Stop Every Crime
We applaud the men and women in blue for the service and sacrifices they make, but even they will admit that they can't be everywhere, every time. It's simply not realistic. And when you understand this, you begin to understand why it is so vital in today's society to take a proactive approach to defending your family, loved ones and property. If a criminal kicks-in your front door at 2:30 AM, and you and your children literally sleep no more than 50-60 feet from said door, you have two options: You can dial 9-1-1 and hope to God that the police arrive before you're all killed, or you can defend yourself responsibly using Constitutionally-protected lethal force.
The Bad Guys Don't Buy Guns Legally
It never ceases to amaze us how ill-informed the anti-gun crowd is when it comes to knowledge of how criminals acquire firearms. Thugs and murderers and rapists, for the record, do not walk into gun stores prepared to go through all the proper channels required to purchase a firearm in Illinois. They steal them. They trade them for drugs. They buy them with cash on the black market before scratching the serial numbers off. This is the reality. Taking away a law-abiding citizen's right to carry a concealed weapon has absolutely zero positive impact on any part of life as we know it. In fact, it accomplishes quite the opposite. When you disarm the responsible faction of society, you put the odds ever in the favor of those most likely to commit a vicious crime.
Criminals Are Now Thinking Twice
There have been numerous reports of individuals who have singlehandedly prevented crime from happening, simply because they were carrying a legally-purchased and registered gun at precisely the right place and time. And if you don't think that the bad guys are worried about concealed carry, you're grossly mistaken. Criminals know that Illinois is no longer the free-for-all that it once was. As more law-abiding Illinois and Chicago residents exercise their right to defend themselves, the scumbags of the world are beginning to understand that every robbery, rape, murder and assault is now a potentially game changing role of the dice.
